Longtime Physician Executive and Consultant Brings Expertise in Care Bundles and Analytics to Blue Health Intelligence®

Russell D. Robbins to lead informatics section and help develop new products

CHICAGO (Dec. 11, 2018) – Russell D. Robbins, M.D., M.B.A., a veteran consultant, physician executive, and expert in medical informatics, has joined Blue Health Intelligence (BHI®), a leader in the healthcare data analytics market. Robbins will lead BHI’s clinical informatics section, where he will help health plans, consulting firms, physician practices, and employers use data analytics to improve healthcare delivery and quality.

“Russell is a great addition to the BHI team,” said Swati Abbott, BHI’s CEO. “His deep understanding of health plan benefits, clinical software tools and novel data analysis approaches will be invaluable as we help our health plan clients navigate key industry trends like population health management and value-based care.”

One of Robbins’ main responsibilities will be to help find additional clinical and commercial applications for analytic methodologies that can harness BHI’s unparalleled database of medical claims.

“Healthcare data and analytics provide the insights to understand healthcare costs and trends, whether at a micro level (physician or patient), or regional or national norms and standards,” Robbins said. “That helps improve quality, costs, and trends in procedures and diagnosis, and provides an unbiased window into what’s happening in healthcare delivery. I am very excited to continue this work with the incredible database, solutions, and deep bench of expertise at BHI.”

As an independent consultant, Robbins helped healthcare startups and large companies innovate in areas such as episode of care insurance products, behavioral health, and lifestyle management. He served as chief medical officer at FAIR Health®, a New York-based nonprofit, where he worked with a large healthcare claims database to identify trends in healthcare delivery, costs, and practice patterns. Prior to that, he worked as a medical consultant and data expert with companies such as Mercer and Ingenix.

Robbins started his professional career as a urologist in private practice in Schenectady, New York. He received his medical degree from New York University, where he was chief resident in the Department of Urology. He received his MBA in Health Sciences from Union College in Schenectady.
