San Francisco (June 18, 2019) – Blue Health Intelligence® (BHI®) CEO Swati Abbott joined a distinguished panel at Bloomberg’s The Future of Data conference in San Francisco today to discuss how Big Data has the potential to create true business and personal value.
The panel, which also included former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, now Chief of Health Innovations at Canyon Ranch; and JoAnn Stonier, Mastercard’s Chief Data Officer, looked at best practices for collecting data for new, innovative technologies; how some data is not being used to its full value; and next steps for leaders to leverage data effectively and deliver valuable insights in an environment that is shareable. The session can be seen on YouTube.
During one exchange, Abbott said BHI’s mission is to mine data from its National Data Repository – the largest in the nation – to identify where healthcare spending is wasted and may end up harming patients.
“How do we take this data and go to the health plans and the providers to help them set policy with informed decision-making?” she asked. “How do we enable this data and make it transparent for you as the consumer to better understand your health?”
Abbott described how record numbers of insured individuals are accumulating more than $250,000 a year in healthcare costs, and how BHI is working on predictive modeling to anticipate which individuals are likely to get sick (or become sicker), so interventions can be introduced sooner to maximize healthcare improvements for all stakeholders.
“This work isn’t just about preventing high costs, it is about improving people’s health,” she said.
